I can't seem to find any in depth specs on this upcoming R2 release. Does anyone have this information. Thanks from a big "Zulu" fan!

Not very in depth but all I could find is this at http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/compari....php?fid=1684:
    - Commentary by 2nd Unit Director Robert Porter and film historian Dr. Sheldon Hall
    - Roll Of Honour featurette
    - ...And Snappeth The Spear In Sunder featurette
    - 2.35:1 anamorphic PAL
    - Dolby Digital 2.0 English
    The BBFC recently passed these:
00:25:44:14 | THE MAKING OF ZULU ROLL OF HONOUR
00:20:01:21 | THE MAKING OF ZULU ...AND SNAPPETH THE SPEAR IN SUNDER

Hasn't the disc (in the UK at least) been delayed for an unspecified period?

I thought it was due 11/4/02. I'm not aware of a delay, but I don't keep as up to date with R2 release.

Yes, sorry you appear to be correct. It was delayed from a previous date until 4th November.

Paramount recently announced their November releases and Zulu wasn't included - which annoys me no end.

I see that Paramount is now advertising it in magazines alongside other Michael Caine DVDs so release probably is 4 Nov.

I've placed an order for this with Benson's World. I'm giving them a try out to see if I'll add them to my list of R2 suppliers. I'm looking forward to seeing how this DVD compares with my Criterion LD version. If the transfer is better, I'll be happy. It would also be really nice if it had better audio than the LD.

I've not seen any indication at the WEB sites of R2 retailers that this release would have a DD 5.1 soundtrack or audio commentary. I certainly would welcome a commentary & a DD 5.1 soundtrack. I'll take this info with a grain of salt until I have the DVD in my player & playing it.

I've never seen this film, but I'm a fan of the subject matter, the soundtrack, the era in which it was filmed, and Michael Caine. I've been waiting for it to be released in anamorphic format, but I wasn't aware of this release up to now. Thanks for bringing it to my attention! [IMG]

Too bad that the BBFC could not rate the supposed 5.1 soundtrack.[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Got it yesterday. Picture quality is good. Soundtrack is "only" 2.0 surround but it is terrific. Great score from John Barry (which I had forgotten about having seen the movie a long time ago) and the Zulu's sounded very impressive coming on "like a train in the distance" [IMG].
I found the 2 documentaries only mildly interesting and haven't listened to the commentary track yet.
Packaging is very nice btw. It comes in a carton slipcover (with a normal keepcase inside) with Zulu in embossed letters and an embossed feather across the front. Gives it something special [IMG] [IMG]

Just to endorse what Danny said - an excellent transfer. Curiously, the dialogue and effects are much more cleanly reproduced than the music track, which still sounds muffled.

The documentaries are okay and worth watching, if not riveting. The commentary track is alright. There are commentary subtitles (something that is becoming more frequent I'm pleased to note - why whould hard-of-hearing folks miss out?). I'd personally have preferred the possibility of the commentary as a subtitles-only option (as on the recent Star Wars release) but we can't have everything , I suppse.

Nonetheless, a nice package, and a massive leap ahead of the previous efforts.
