Off of the top of my head:

    Amelie
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (there's no way the MPAA would ever let it get away with a PG-13, but I think anyone 13 or older can handle the material)
    The Patriot

Amelie - Yes, it should've been PG-13, but the "orgasm" scene makes it R automatically.
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back PG-13? Are you freaking crazy? The film has over 227 uses of the word 'fuck' and the many sexual references. You would trust a 13 year old with such dialog like: "Hey baby, you ever have your asshole licked by a fat guy in an overcoat?" I think not.
The Patriot - The extreme violence in the film makes it an R. In all honesty, the film should've never been made.
Now, films that don't deserve the R:
Almost Famous - There is nothing bad in the film, except the 20 or so uses of the word 'fuck' and the occasional drug reference. Sadly, if you say the word 'fuck' more than once (or two or three times), you got the R.
Army of Darkness - How this originally got the NC-17 is beyond me. The film goes almost unedited on Sci-Fi Channel (except when they edit out that naked lady and the use of the word 'shit').
Run Lola Run - I don't remember reading that many profanities. And kids don't read anyway, so they wouldn't see it. [IMG]

I second Amelie, any 13 year old can handle that. In my country (The Netherlands) for instance, it got an "all ages" rating (the equivalent of the U.S.' "G" rating).
Maybe it's a bit too much to get a PG-13 rating, but if I had a 13 year old son, I'd force him to see Requiem For A Dream. Great anti-drugs propaganda! [IMG]

J&SBSB is rightfully an R ... it's an adult themed movie aimed at adults. I don't hate non-R, but I feel lots of films are unnecessarily 'toned down' in effort to chase fickle teen movie dollars. So please don't steal one of the proud Rs we have! [IMG]

A Fistful of Dollars - I think there are a lot of PG-13 movies that are much more violent.

I couldn't believe it that Ghost World was R-rated.

Stand by Me- Considering the fact that the characters and target audience are preteen males. Just because of some cuss words, it gets an R.

Jay and Silent Bob had to even be cut back a bit on the language to avoid getting an NC-17. It rightfully deserved an R.

Can't think of any R rated flicks that deserved PG-13 off hand. I didn't even realize The Score was rated R. So I third that.

A LOT of movies that are R in the US are rated PG-14 here in Canada. It has to be a a major "R" for it to be "R" here. The Score was PG14. Makes me laugh as usually it's the canadian government that is so protective!

The Matrix is the only movie I can think of off the top of my head. Language was minimal, I dont even remember hearing the F-word and the violence was intense but not really bloody or graphic. I really dont think it deserved an R.

I'm ashamed to admit seeing this, and Chmiel will probably roll his eyes again, but Judge Dredd should have definitely been PG-13. I think the PG-13 case can be made for The Man Who Wasn't There, too.

Requiem For A Dream should've never been NC-17 (unrated), it should've been R. And yes, it's a great anti-drug movie. [IMG]

No idea. Was The Princess Diaries rated R? Cuz there's nothing too bad in that one.
    Ooh, I got one.
What would The Blues Brothers be rated if it were released today? [IMG]
