this is my first post here, but i have been luriking for about 3 weeks now. the amount of knowledge you all have taught me is invaluable!

so here is an easy question im sure.

I plan on purchasing either the H/K AVR-525 receiver, or the Pioneer Elite 45TX. Both are 6.1 and 7.1 compliant. I have no plans for a 7.1 setup (right this moment) but do plan on adding jumping to a 6.1 within the next 2 months. To run 6.1 do i *need* an amp? is the power coming from the receiver not sufficient enough to run 6 discrete channels? I have been unable to find this answer on the search option. If i 6.1 requires an extra amp, then maybe i would want to hold off on 6.1...

    thanks for the info!

In my opinion even running 5.1 can be a strain on the amps of any receiver. If your planning on 6.1 I would suggest an external amp for at least the fronts/center.

Liana, both have 7 channels of amplification so you wont need an amp unless you want/need more power that the receivers provide.
