A girlfriend of mine and her sister are fixing to go out to buy a new DVD player and I have not kept up with the newest generation of inexpensive players. Which brand and models are the best in the sub 200-250 dollar price range? Thanks!

For around 250 or so the Panasonic RP56 progressive scan. If you don't want progressive scan then for under 200 the Panasonic RV31 is a great player. If you want a 5 disc the CV51 is the 5 disc version of the RV31 and it can be had for under 250.

I will agree with both the two recomendations above. Both bang-for-the-buck leaders at the price.

I agree with the recommendations for the RP56 and RV31 and have seen both. FYI - my cousin purchased the RP56 for $209 at BJ's (a "price club" kind of store). If you have the ability to get into one of these (or know someone who does) and want great PS, your girlfriend could consider this option for about $10 more than your stated budget.
