Questions about the stiffness of subwoofer drivers… (1 Viewer)

I have noticed that when I bought my HSU STF-2 (a few weeks ago) the driver was harder to push in with your hand than it is today. I have noticed this with other subs as well, when they are new the driver is very stiff and harder to move, but after some use becomes easier to move with your hand. Is this normal for subs and just the driver breaking in? I would think it would be a good thing if it was easier to move with your hand, because that would make it easier for the amp to drive it. Any thoughts on this, I know I have heard it mentioned before.

Same thing happened with mine, stiff then got easier. Didn't do it by much but was a little noticeable.

My experience has been the same--subs do tend to loosen up a bit with break-in. I've had some that when new I could have sworn were defective as they just didn't seem to put out very much but after a few hours of use they came alive.

My STF-2 was one of the few that sounded pretty strong right from the beginning, though it too got a bit stronger after a few days.
