Questions about DVI input on my Samsung DLP... (m) (1 Viewer)

My Samsung DLP (HLN567W) only has one DVI input...

However, I have two DVI devices: Comcast HDTV box (Motorola) and Samsung DVD player (HD841).

The question is:
Which device should I dedicate my DLP's DVI input to?

I watch much more TV than movies, so that would suggest routing the Comcast box through DVI...

But that begs the question:
If I connect the Samsung HD841 using componant video, do I lose the upscaling effect that this DVD player offers?

One more question:
Is the DVI cable that Samsung includes with the HD841 good enough, or should I feel obligated to spend $50 - $100 on something from Pacific Cable or Mon$ter?

The conventional wisdom is that the HD is real HD, so that should get the DVI.

In reality, you should try it every which way but loose bewteen your component video and DVI, and then decide which maintains the best overall for both sources.

Make sense?

Or get a dvi switch box ...
Personally I agree that the cable box should get it, as it is true HD, but you have a point about component not getting upconverted (but some models still do it, so your particular model may or may not, I'm not really sure). If it doesn't do it by component, I'd go back to what I said first .. switch box

I don't believe the Samsung DVD player upconverts over component. Like was said, try things different ways...especially the DVD player. I found DVI quite a bit better from the Motorola box on my plasma display...both for HD and SD signals and especially SD.
