Questions about digital connection (split from "Digital Output or Analogue Output for 5.1 playback?"

    for a couple of months i have been wondering about coaxial cable,s or Optical cable,s i mean witch one is better of the two it,s always the same questian some magezines says that optical is better and the others says that coaxial is better.is there a big diffrence?????thanks[​IMG]

    Digital is digital...

    The connection works or it doesn't. I have both (optical & coax).

    The coax connector is cheaper (usually).

    Soundwise, I am sure some of high-end folks would beg to differ, but I can't tell the difference.

    oke thank guys but this is the big problem i have.i own a onkyo 701 thx reciever and a PIONEER laserdisc model 909dv the latest one with dvd.if i put the movie the ROCK wich is a dolby digital AC3 movie.my reciever gifs a PRO LOGIC sound.i have conect it with optical cable and coaxial cable and non gifs me the dolby digital sound???it,s a bummer becaus i own a lot of laserdisc,s with DOLBY DIGTAL SOUND TRACKS thanks

    You can't play DD tracks from laserdisc without first passing the signal through a demodulator. Check out the laserdisc section of the HTF Primer and FAQ (link in my signature below).
