I understand that the X-Files was filmed in widescreen from Season 5 on, however, when I began watching the first disc I noticed a few segments which confused me. For example, the opening credits are presented in widescreen and as far as I can tell are the same credits from prior seasons, so to present them in widescreen they must have either matted or stretched the image. Secondly, there are a few flashback sequences to prior episodes (from earlier seasons) which to my understanding were not shot in widescreen, so again to present these segments in widescreen they must have either matted or stretched the image. I would appreciate it if someone with a little more knowledge on the subject could explain how these segments are infact widescreen and not altered from their original presentation, or am I correct in assuming that the above segments are altered?

Mijang, the opening credits were probably done in a program similar to Adobe After Effects, so they were probably just remade for widescreen

Since the entire show was probably shot in Super35, they probably just extracted the 16:9 center area. I do know that some segments of Buffy Season 3 were shot widescreen for the intention of re-using them in Season 4, so X-Files could have had similar ideas
