Is it necessary to have a DTS CD player in order to play DTS CD's, or just a receiver that has DTS capability? With HT receivers taking off on the market, why aren't DTS CD's more popular?

Doug, just a reguler CD player digital out going to a DTS capable receiver/decoder will do.

The selection & price of DTS CD's plus the fact that we have now two other supposingly better formats.

You need to have a digital out on your player and a DTS decoder in your receiver.

DTS CDs have been out for awhile now and it was a good attempt to introduce quality multi-channel music into the marketplace. I have quite a few, and I still enjoy listening to them. With DVD-A & SACD coming to the forefront now, there is less of a need for DTS CDs by themselves, but DTS is still putting the format on their DVD-A discs.
