We got our Mustek 6003EP Plus about 5 or so years ago. Maby even a little longer ago than that. I'm curious if there's any advantage to upgrade our scanner to something newer and something that has an USB connection rather than an SCSI connection..

Have scanners gotten any faster in the last year or so? It seems to take a minute or so to scan in a grayscale image on my current one..

Neil I have a 36 bit scanner/printer and I use a USB 2.0, my scans takes about 30 seconds for copying DVD covers. I then print them off of my computers template. My Canon F20 cost $149 prints retail covers with it's 4 ink via 2 tanks as my covers are averaging 4.5MB. F20 AKA a multipass but no fax as I have no use and don't use them. [IMG]

Neil my scans keep the hirez in MB, not KB, with IEEE female on both end cabels like some older scanners. [IMG]

There are many USB scanners available nowdays.. it is probably the most popular choice for entry level scanners.

I recently bought an Epson 2400 scanner, certainly not high end but not entry level either. I've been primarily using it to scan in negatives at 2400dpi (the scanner does a real optical 2400dpi) which take about 5-6 minutes for each negative (but it creates a 40-60MB tiff file). For a regular picture scanned at 600dpi it takes about a minute or so, and could be even faster at 300dpi, all of these scans are done at the highest color quality settings.
