just got back from tony lukes, south philly.

dissapointment.
took too long for the 2 chstk's to come out the window.

pat's and genos are almost instant, no matter how long the line.

and the roll was a hard roll that just broke apart while eating.

Hey TonyD (Aston), I worked out that way years ago when I was a teenager ('78-ish). There used to be a great little steak place right next to where the Sharon Hill trolley intersected either MacDade or Chester Pike.

If this rings any bells, is the place still there?

that could be leo's on chester pike.

they show up on a lot of best of lists and i mentioned it a couple of posts up.

it is a typical chopped/pulverized steak sandwich but it would be as if you ordered an extra/double meat one.

not one of my faverites.

just found this thread by accident.

thought i'd add a something

WaWa our local 7-eleven like store now does what they are calling a steak sandwiche.

it's just the standard steak-umm stuff kept warm in one the bins and they put it on a roll.
not very good , not able to get it hot enough to eat or melt the cheese.

i almost wish i could go back to were i grew up in Kensington philly.

there was a combo steak/pizza shop on just about every other block.

almost all of them were good.

i still havent found a worthy steak or pizza out here in the aston area.
been here more then 6 years.

why, because these places are trying to attract the tourist types looking for the "authentic" experience rather than a good cheesesteak?

As long as you avoid the really big chains, it's actually difficult to get a bad cheesesteak in Philly. When I used to live and work on Rittenhouse Square there was a little shop on 15th at Sansom that I can't remember the name, but had great cheesesteaks. The local chains even make great steaks, Lee's in particular. Any local Cheesesteak/Pizza place is going to have a good steak in the area.

Make sure at Geno's you order in english. Apparently they posted a sign that says "This is america, order in english only." They're getting flack about it.
