I am working to upgrade my in-law's home video system. I don't call it home theater because they are not planning to put a surround sound system. They are going to buy a flat screen TV so they can continue to watch their DVDs and programs on cables and they do not want to spend a lot of money on components because they cannot see well or hear well. Due to the space limit around the TV, we are planning to run only 1 HDMI cables to the TV.
I did some research. Some AVR can do video switching. Some say that they can switch digital signals to HDMI output. Does it mean that the signals from component, composite cables or S-video will not be able to pass through HDMI cables to the TV?
Is there any AVR or other components, such as the switcher, which can take all kinds of signals and converts the signals and output through an HDMI cable to the TV?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
