I've seen it posted both here at HTF and over at The Bits, that Bill's site is having some issues where users are sometimes getting misdirected over to HTF.
In fact, this post at The Bits says it best:

Well if that's true -- which I'm not sure about -- that's not cool at all. We paid for a HTF server, not for a Digital Bits server.

    So Parker...can you please clarify?

    Wow! This is touchy.

It would not be fair to Bill Hunt for me to

sit here and tell you what really happened.

There may be things that Bill may not appreciate

    being discussed openly.

    I'll say this....

Nearly two years ago, Tim Flavin extended his

arms to us when it looked like HTF was going to

close for good because we could not afford the cost

of bandwidth space for our 15,000+ members.

At the time (and still pretty much the same) every

website was choking because there was no advertising.

Even today, Advertisers don't pay what they should

    on websites like ours.

Someone was very kind to us. We felt the same

need to respond to Bill's website that was also in

    a very difficult situation.

Nobody should forget that a year earlier, Bill

Hunt took this forum under his wing and made us

his official discussion forum. He did this because

he knew we were the best DVD discussion forum out

there. By him doing this, HTF gained an extreme

    amount of exposure.

Bill needed help, just like we needed help.

We added him to our server and Tim Flavin let

    him use the bandwidth.

Did your donations also help The Digital Bits?

I suppose it did, though we never really looked

at it that way when we ran the donation drive.

We just agreed to help Bill's website until he

could get back on his feet. This is no different

than offers we received from other websites when

it looked like we were going to go belly-up.

I can tell you that Bill is looking to move off

    our server very soon.

I had noticed this, and wondered myself, but didn't say anything, because frankly I figured it was something like that, and I for one don't have a problem with it. I think we need to remember that all of those donations were voluntary and I for one trust Ron and Parker's judgment. It's not like the money was diverted for a trip to Hawaii. [IMG]

No, a trip to the Bahamas, instead [IMG]
No, really, we put whatever was left towards
    upgrades in the future.
This is simply a case of us wanting to help
out a site that had helped us.
It was never meant to be permanent.

I have no problems with that explanation. Not touchy at all, to me. You did the right thing.

I was merely curious, especially as one of the donating members.

The way I look at it, I would have also been somewhat inclined to help support Bill's site via donation, but now I have helped two sites for the price of one, in a way. As I explained in the thread encouraging Ron to keep chats alive, I would not be here at all if it weren't for The Bits!

I DO trust Ron and Parker's judgement on these things, and I'm glad that I'm part of a "family" that has a "giving and sharing attitude", and so I am not upset at all. Thank you for the forthright explanation, Ron!
