Question about Philips DVDR3305/05 (1 Viewer)

Getting this for my Dad for Christman hopefully tomorrow or Saturday but a quick question. Probably a stupid question but can I record from my VHS player to this Philips DVDR3305/05. We have all sorts of things we'd like to transfer like home movies, football games, weddings etc.

Also if anyone has experience with it is it a good buy. It costs €199 where i'm going to buy it from but does it cause any problems etc. Cheers and thank you!

A crude form of copy protect can get in the way, but it works for the most part.
