I'm leaving to buy a new TV in about one hour(Toshiba 27A41)
and was wondering about something. I recall hearing somewhere that when you buy a new TV, you should wait about 1 week before adjusting any of the picture settings. Anyone know if this is true? I don't really want to wait a week but I'd much rather not mess up my new set.

I'd adjust them right out of the box, at least turn down the contrast from the Toshiba factory setting of maximum. If you don't have Avia or VE, then I'd simply put everything right in the middle for starters, except Sharpness which I'd put at around 1/3. After this initial calibration, I'd go ahead and recalibrate after a week or two of active use. With the 2 new direct views I've calibrated, I haven't noticed major shifts from the initial calibration, just usually small tweaks.
cheers,
