I have the Denon 3802. If I have 7 speakers hooked up (2 rear centers), and I put it on 6.1 matrix with a 5.1 dvd, will it use the DD decoder for the 5.1 discrete channels and get a matrixed 7th??? Or is it like Pro-logic???
please help
thanks

anyone? did I phrase the question wrong? I just want to know that if a 5.1 dvd is in and the receiver is on 6.1 matrix, am i still getting 5.1 discrete channels, then a "matrixed" rear center?

That's the way I understand it. If you give the brand and model of your receiver, I'm sure some can tell you for sure if that's how it works.

That's the way I understand that it works on my 2802. The rear center is derived from the SL & SR channels.

It's kind of tricky, as whatever is put into matrixed rear center channel gets stripped from the surround channels. In other words, the matrix processing affects all three surround channels, not just the matrixed one. In other words, it definitely uses DD decoder to extract the 5.1 first but after matrix processing the rear left and right channels are no longer the same as when they came out of the DD decoder.
