Question About Getting Good FM Reception With Reciever Placed In Cabinet... (1 Viewer)

Hey folks,

I'm trying to figure out a puzzle for an acquaintance setting up his HT.
He'll be putting his AV receiver in a custom-built cabinet. They don't want to see any cords etc.

He wants to use his receiver to listen to the radio and of course wants good reception. However, we are unsure as to how to get good reception with the receiver placed in the built-in cabinet. And the prefer not to see antennas.

Can anyone suggest a solution? Are there any antennas that will work if placed within the cabinet out of sight? Or any other antenna/reception solutions? I understand he could also use his TV cable as the reception cable for radio (???)

Thanks,

Rich.

Try cable if possible. If he has a roof antenna, then he can definitely run a coax cable to the receiver.

Also, if he's just using a thin wire antenna, just tape/tack it to the outside back of the cabinet. Wouldn't it still be out of site?

I can't see it working well with the antenna on the inside.

If he has cable or satellite, plug the in-wall wiring into a coax splitter and run one coax cable into the TV tuner and one for the receiver's antenna plug.

Rich, depends on your location and signal strength. I am running a Denon 2805 with the standard issue am and fm ant., and just had a custom cabinet built to replace a coat closet. My components, mini frig, dvds and storage are all in this cabinet, and my am and fm reception is fine. I have a few inches clearance on top of the AVR, where I keep the 2 ant.s. If needed, I wiggle them a bit to clear-up the reception for any hard to get station. Working fine for me. :emoji_thumbsup:
