I consider buying some more of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's films on DVD. The titles on the following list are released by Wellspring Media according to jclarkmedia.com/fassbinder/ and amazon.com

Love is Colder Than Death
Katzelmacher
The American Soldier
Beware of a Holy Whore
The Merchant of Four Seasons
The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant
Effi Briest
Fox and His Friends
Fear of Fear
Chinese Roulette
Satan's Brew

Dvdpacific.com has all of these titles as well. At the first glance most (or all) of them appear to be the same, but according to the info on the specific titles they are released by Fox Lorber.

Would anyone know if this is correct?

The former Fox Lorber changed its name first to WinStar and then to Wellspring, so

Fox Lorber = WinStar = Wellspring

I own four of those titles, and they are pretty good.

Ah, as simple as that.

I'm under the impression, though, that the name Fox Lorber is poison for DVD quality. But according to jclarkmedia.com practically all of these Wellspring editions are very good...

All the Fassbinder films are very good quality. There is another one out there, WHITY, that is also very good with a fascinating commentary, one of the best I've heard on DVD. It is by his producer and the cinematographer (who would go on to do Scorsese's films) and is filled with fascinating stories about RW.

As for Fox Lorber, they were also one of the first DVD companies out there so that is why many were of poor quality. Great titles, but poor quality.

So I won't get burnt by bad Fassbinder DVDs, then. There are great deals on them all on DVD Pacific, so that's where I'll order, it seems.
