Hi everybody, for my first post here I have a question I need answered ASAP. I'm a college student without much money that's about to move into the HD era. I just purchased a new 32'' lcd (on sale of course) and I got a PS3 last Christmas. Anyway, I'm about to jump into the Blu-Ray waters, but I just remembered that my few years old 5.1 receiver (from an HTIB) doesn't decode DTS (only DD5.1 and PLII).
I know that the PS3 internally decodes DTS, but can my receiver output the bitstream sent to it by the PS3 and give me full 5.1 sound? Or would I have to have the PS3 send it as PCM? I only have an toslink optical hookup by the way. If I had to send PCM, would it then be limited to 2-channels of audio? I realize that I don't yet have what is needed for HD-audio, but with so many Blu-Ray movies coming with only DTS 5.1 (just about anything made by Universal for example) I would really like to be sure if I HAVE to buy a new receiver or not.
