OK, maybe I'm misunderstanding something here, or I'm just a clueless dope, but I just bought a 727, and I popped in the LORD OF THE RINGS: FOTR extended edition. When I select the DTS audio track, I get NO audio at all. Same with the DTS track on OPEN RANGE. I don't have a separate receiver; I'm just running the audio through a normal Samsung 27" stereo TV. What am I doing wrong? Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm new to this. Thanks!

I'm guessing the DVD player is connected to the TV by two cables from the player's analog outputs, right?

DTS requires a digital connection to a DTS decoder. All DVD players can output a stereo analog signal from a Dolby Digital track. Very few of them can do so from a DTS track.

Ah. That would explain it, then. Thanks!

The DTS disclaimer seems fairly clear about this.

You don't get Dolby Digital either. You only get stereo in your current config, even though you get audio.

"Dolby Digital" and "stereo" aren't mutually exclusive. If he's playing a disc with a DD 2.0 soundtrack, he's getting exactly what he would get with an external DD decoder.
And even if he's getting a downmixed 5.1 track, it's still "Dolby Digital", 'cause that's the only source he can play with his current setup.

Well in his current config, he has left and right analog audio going to the TV AV inputs, aside from some TV gimick surround mode he only has Stereo....
