I am thinking about getting an optical digital audio cable for my Playstation 2. Mainly for in-game DTS in GTA: Vice City and others. I want to know if it improves the sound for games with Dolby Surround, Dolby Pro-Logic 2, and plain old stereo sound. Thanks for your help!

Edit: sorry for the subject typo. :b

IMO I found it to increase the dynamics just SLIGHTLY over the standard RCA connection through my reciever.

I'll second that and, in fact, beyond the dynamics I have to actually turn the volume down 3 or 4 notches to match the non-optical audio out.

Sounded the same to me on my PS2, it's not a requirement. But it's a -must- if you have an XBox..

Ok, now I have another question. Is GTA: Vice City a major improvement in DTS?

Now that's a contentious issue... I've heard alot of people saying they prefer to listen to it in DPL II, but my reciever only has regular Prologic so on my equipment I find the DTS much better, especially for the discrete surrounds.

I personally think the DTS is a major improvement.

I'd say connect your PS2 with an optical audio cable. MUCH better.
