With so many movies being re-released as special editions, where are all the classics. By that i mean movies that were released in the early days of dvd and have not yet received an update. Does anyone know of any plans for the following?

    Pyscho (original)
    Titanic
    Trainspotting
    Deliverance
    American History X
    Carrie (new transfer)

Psycho and Carrie are fine. Carrie had an SE a year or two ago.

The current Psycho DVD isn't anamorphic, but it's an extremely well done transfer.

Deliverance could probably use a new transfer, but the current DVD looks and sounds great.

The Carrie SE is anything but fine. That transfer is terrible. The entire film is littered with artifacts dirt & scratches. I sold it 2 days after I bought because I was so disappointed wih it. The extras are OK but they should of put a lot more work into the film itself first.

Most of those early Warner DVD's need to be restored or at least find better or cleaner masters (their back catalog stuff I mean, their new stuff is very good). I'm sure they will get around to doing SE's of most of the films they consider to be their classics. It'll probably take some time. Patience is something lovers of pristine transfers really need these days. (personally as a big Bruce Lee fan, I hope the do a restored version of Enter The Dragon)

Titanic definately requires an Ultimate Edition.

Lion King is getting the same treatment that Snow White and Beauty and the Beast recieved. It is going to have a new song added. I believe its coming out in Imax in the Theatre first.

There are a lot of older discs that I'd like to see given the SE treatment with new/restored/anamorphic transfers and supplemental content. Here are some:

    Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
    Batman
    Batman Returns
    Beetlejuice
Blade Runner (COME ON ALREADY, FOR GOD'S SAKE!!)
    Bulworth
    The Cable Guy
    Carlito's Way
    Casino
    Chinatown
    Dazed and Confused
    Deep Impact
    The Deer Hunter
    Dumb and Dumber
    Get Shorty
    Clint Eastwood's westerns
    Gone With the Wind
    Hamburger Hill
    The Horse Whisperer
    The Karate Kid
    Mars Attacks
    Michael Collins
    Midnight Cowboy
    Nettwork
    Poltergeist
    The Right Stuff
    The River Wild
    Rounders
    Sleepers
    Sling Blade
    The Train
    The Truman Show
    Waking Ned Devine

I'd love to see Criterion do Trainspotting. I think American History X and Deliverance are very acceptable (very good tranfers and decent extras). Titanic will come...someday. Carrie just got a SE and the Psycho DVD is still very good, though non-anamorphic.

yet another instance where i feel like i'm living in a twilight zone. On my set up, Carrie looks perfectly fine.
i'd rate the video quality above Dressed To Kill, and WAY above Blow Out (which has many shots looking soft and/or fuzzy). i've read complaints of this transfer in many other places and each time i spin it, i sit there with my brows knit in complete confusion.
to me it looks just vivid and sharp enough to pleasant and not overly 'digital' looking.
coming from MGM, a label that has trashed many of my favorite films with artifact ridden non-anamorphic bin fillers, this disc positively borders on the divine.

shame you already sold it, i would love to see some screen caps where you feel the film is poorly rendered.
if anyone can for that matter i'd be much obliged.
i have a nickle sized bald spot where i've been scratching that i need to justify.

Have you heard anything on Batman SE?
I have been looking to pick up Batman and The Crow.
I feel like I am always getting a DVD and a month down the
road their is a release of a better version. I kick myself and say,
"next time I am going to do the research.."

I also thought the Carrie disc was a mess. Especially the early scene in the showers. It was raining artefacts!

I have picked up both Batman and The Crow.
I hope their is no new release of a better version anytime soon.

They both seem cool although batman has no extras
which was no surprize since I read that in one of it reviews.

Here are several movies which need to be re-released on DVD in anamorphic Widescreen:

    Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
    Cujo
    Dr. Giggles
    Pumpkinhead

The 4 movies I just mentioned above were filmed in Widescreen but they were transfered to DVD in Pan & Scan.
