These are essentially hard drives, right? Well, PC hard drives require occasional defragmenting.... which got me wondering... Wouldn't PVRs require the same sort of maintenance? Or is it something that's built-in? I've had my Dish Network PVR for about five months now, and I've been noticing an occasional glitch here and there, which never happened when the unit was new.

The file system needs defragmenting, not the hard drive. Don't think in Fat32 or NTFS terms. Tivo uses a file system that is optimized for video recording and playback. Probably the same for Dish.

I see a glitch every now and then with my DirecTivo. It's nothing to worry about until it starts to happen on a regular basis.
