I heard talk of the software being updated for the 501, anyone hear about when? I thought it was supposed to be by the end of June which has come and gone.

The upgrade happened at the end of June. Do you leave your 501 turned on all of the time? It must be off to receive the upgrade. The guide info is now stored on the drive and there are more than 10 timers. The downside is that about half the people lost their recordings during the upgrade. Check out the PVR forum atwww.dbsforums.com for the latest info.

    you should see various numbers.
You should see one that begins with
    P115 or p116 OR P118
    P118 is the current version.

The upgrade included duplicating the Guide information on the hard drive, so that there is no longer any "please wait or cancel" messages, and you can move around in the Guide virtually instantnaeously. And, the PIP in the Guide now shows the current channel continuously.
The other major change was increasing the number of timers from 10 to 50.
And also, the list of recordings now shows the title and info from the longest program in each recording, rather than the first program.
And, a few bug fixes were included, such as a fix for freezing and audio dropouts in playback of recordings, and a fix for some consecutive timer issues.
