OK, getting an X-box in two weeks (studying for an exam on June 1st and won't get my next paycheck to pay for the thing until the 31st).

Looking to get 5 games right off the bat. I love sports games so NHL Hitz and Sega's new World Series Baseball make the list. Love Oddworld on PS1, so that's a given especially with the price drop and I love RPG's so I'm definately getting Morrowind.

The 5th one is debatable. I'm not a huge advocate of first person shooters, but from what I have been reading on this board, Halo is a must for my fifth game. I have a killer audio system with full 5.1 (but no Hi-Def TV) and I have heard the sound on this game is incredible.

Is this the kind of game that would convert somebody who normally doesn't like games of this genre. I have one on my PC and play it time to time (Kiss' Psycho Circus...laugh if you want...huge KISS fan here).

Or am I better off filling that last spot with some kind of racing game like Project Gotham? Thanks. I need to say I'm new to the gaming board and you guys are a great source of info. I can't wait to get back into console gaming!!!

Get Halo: I can't see you regretting it.
Like you, I have a pretty decent audio setup. Outlaw Audio 1050, DefTech BP2000's up front, 2004's in the rear and, an SVS 16-46pc with the new upgraded driver.
There's nothing like hearing realtime 5.1! The Covenant dropship literally shake my floors. I can feel when they're near. :D It's very cool hearing where an enemy is and hearing his location move without even seeing him. Even the simply little ambient effects like, rain falling all around, the insect sounds of a warm summer day, the low thrumming sounds of far off alien machinery, are very impressive and further suck you into Halo's world.
Buy it, play it, live it, love it. ;)

OK Derrick, you sold me!!! I think I'll leave NHL Hitz off my first wave and get Halo, WSB, Morrowind and Oddworld. That way I get one of everything. A first person shooter, sports, RPG and Adventure title.

Telling me how good the game SOUNDS is the way to go if you want to convince me. I love the idea that the game is that immersive.

Evan,

Halo has incredible sound that makes it quite immersive. Just last night I was playing Halo for the millionth time. I had all of the lights off and the DD 5.1 blasting. I happened to run by one of "The Elites" (a class of alien) without seeing him. As I ran by he let out this half yell, half growl thing that the elites do (it kind of sounds like a monster losing its temper). The sound of the yell panned by me on my right side as if I had actually run by him and it scared the crap out of me. I actually felt real panic until I could get myself turned around. When I did he was right in front of me and I just started blasting away. I was totally freaked out until he let out his final roar and collapsed to the floor. It is just the coolest thing to get that involved in a game. The combination of the ambient sounds and the great soundtrack really sucks you in. Also, the multi-player aspect of the game adds to its appeal. Fragging your buddies is always fun, but the cooperative mode is a blast too. I can't imagine owning an XBox and not owning Halo, unless you just totally hate first-person shooters.

You also can't overlook the fact that Halo throws lots of vehicles out there for you to use, from Ghosts (like speeder bikes from Star Wars), to Banshees (alien aircraft), to the Warthog (a jeep with more interesting physics than most car driving games have), to a Tank that you can load up with a buttload of Marines to help you kick alien ass.

Halo is more than just a first person shooter!

I'm waiting to hear if WSB2K2 is any different that it's DC Brother. I Picked up WSB2K2 for DC and it was an OK game, much better than the first but still lacking basic things like camera control etc, I thought HH2003 for PS2 a better game even if it did'nt look better it played better. I have to admit WSB2K2 for Xbox might be the game that gets me to buy a system.

Concerning the XBox version of Morrowind, I'm curious if anyone has seen it. My GF bought the PC version since she is addicted to RPGs and doesn't like consoles. So, I looker over her shoulder to see how it is. Well, now I'm also totally into it and I must say that I wonder how the Xbox version is going to fare. The PC version interface relies a lot on customizeable windows and hyperlinks. It would be really tedious, if I had to use the joystick to move the mouse cursor or cycles through the links. Does anyone know how this is going to be addressed?

Also, concerning Halo: I didn't play FPS for years due to motion sickness issues, but Halo gave me the motivation to overcome my handicap. Now I'm enjoying years of missed FPS games (finally finished JK1! Pathetic, I know!).

Addentum: I finished Halo in coop on all settings (except easy). Just an indicator on how far it propulsed me over the edge. That's one game for the history books.

I want to thank everyone on this board. I went to KBToys tonight to get some accessories for the X-Box now seeing I wasn't going to get the actual X-Box until next week when I get paid. However, they were running a sale. Buy 3 games with the purchase of an X-box and they give you another $50 off the unit!!! So, I picked up Halo, Oddworld and Project Gotham plus the DVD pack, Hi-Def pack and the actual console for only $330!!!! You cannot beat that!! I played Halo for about 30 minutes tonight and you guys were right!!! It is a really cool game with incredible sound. I never thought a console system could sound this good. I actually think it sounds as good if not better than when I watch an actual DVD!!! Really excited about my purchase and want to thank everyone here for great advice. Once my huge CFA exam is over on June 1st, I'll be playing this thing 24/7.

Wow, Evan! Do you know if that sale is nation-wide? I wasn't going to get an x-box for a few weeks, but if I can get $50 off, I'll be getting one this weekend. Thanks!

Yeah, Robert...I've gone to three different KBToys and they all have the same exact sale. Buy three games with the system and they give you an additional $50 off. And that goes for ANY three games, even those already marked down by sale. You could get three $29 games and for $90 in software, you get $50 off the system. Three games for $40??? And all the accessories (hi-def pack, joysticks, DVD pack) at half off??? It's a no-brainer!!!!

If you like hockey, I like EA's NHL 2002 on PC, can't imagine it would be bad on an XBox.
As an All Star Baseball fan...I hear very good things about Sega's upcoming WSB. ;)
