I finally pulled the trigger on the 50 inch Samsung this weekend. My first impressions are that it is a great tv. The only problem is that because I have it on a shelf over the fireplace you lose PQ because of the vertical angle. Not the TV'S fault. It still gives a good picture but I am going to get a stand for it and bring it down to a optimum viewing height. SD is good except on the local network channels, but Comcast has all of the locals in HD so it is a non issue. I haven't seen any rainbows and the picture looks much better in home than at BB. HD is excellent and my only complaint is that none of the zoom modes work. They are all grayed out and my only choices are 16:9 and 4:3. The manual mentioned something about HDMI disables the zoom1 and 2 but wide can be used. It is grayed out and I can't get it to work. If anyone knows the fix I would appreciate the help. I hooked it up to my trusty $39 Apex DVD player and threw in Madagascar through S-Video. I was expecting a good picture but it was amazing. It makes DVD's look great. I am eventually going to get an upconverting DVD player but this will do for now. the Remote is not great and I was a bit dissapointed that I could not get it to work with my Motorola STB.
