Update: I called around and went to the following stores:
Target Best Buy Supr Software Media Play Circuit City
Nobody had 'em, so it's safe to say that tomorrow or Thursday may be our best bet. BTW, I picked up a Linksys USB100TX adapter just in case - I have 30 days to take it back so it's not a biggie. I'm going to test it on Madden in a little bit - I'll let ya know how it went!
Still working on the adapter - Madden recognized it, but I'm getting timeouts on testing. I may need to call MSN/Qwest to figure out what I need to set. I have the Linksys plugged into my workswitch with a 50 foot ethernet cable. The transmit light is blinking and everything's OK on the switch's end. I wonder if it can't see the modem - it's plugged into the switch, but the switch isn't one with a dedicated port for the modem.
I'M CONNECTED - I had to put in a static IP address! Unfortunately the Madden server is down! I can't save my profile yet.
Update: I took the Linksys adapter back. I called EA to ask if they knew if the Madden server was up, and they told me they won't support third-party products and that the server is officially live tomorrow. Up 'til now it's been up and down - has anyone else run into this?
Well as I type this today is the day that I begin the quest. I plan on going to Toys R Us first and then probably to the targets and walmarts just in-case. I would suggest to anyone who wants an adapter as desperately as me to try toys r us today. They are pretty well known for gaming needs and when I called they said that they were selling it on Wednesday. Plus they don't accept preorders(hopefully this is true) so its first come first serve. I will post in this thread as soon as I can with any success stories that I have. Good luck to all on the search!!!
well, its wednesday. I just called my local EB where I have the adapter preordered from, and they dont even have it in yet! WTF!! (they should have had it yesterday!!)
I will continue to call every hour on the hour and get on their nerves until it arrives
Brian, I've been using the same adapter to play Madden for almost two weeks now and have never seen the server down. While EA may claim to only officially support the Sony adapter, they kind give you a "wink, wink, nudge, nudge" if you read the news updates in the Madden lobby (which obviously you cannot get into as of yet).
On a side note, I didn't log in yesterday, so the server may have been down, but as I said, I've never had a problem logging in.
I just called EB a few minutes ago and they said that they have a few left so I asked the guy to put one aside until tonight when I'm done work, he hesitated at first because I didn't pre order but to make a long story short I will be online tonight and if anybody wants to play a little socom I will be there.....online you can call me Serious Crayon
I'll see you all out there!!!!!
DC
I've already been to Wal-Mart (nothing), CompUSA (Friday), and Best Buy (maybe after 11am today), with no luck! I've still got some other stores to check, so I'll let ya know.
Hi guys, well I have mine. But there will be a lot of angry people at my EB. The sales guy told me he had over 45 reserves for it, and he got SIX in. Make that 5, cause I have one here with me!
Typical Sony, never shipping enough hardware. They are the masters of making people anitcipate so much they'll do anything to get it.
yeah, i was number friggin 3 on the list at my EB, and they also receieved 5 units. Woohoo for me cause I get one right? HELL NO!!! That dumbass that worked there didnt realize that they were only gonna get 5 today, so he just gave those 5 to any preorder people, not me!!!!
WTF!!!!! I may be exagerating here, but dont I have a right to be pissed about this?!?!!?
Either way, i still get my SOCOM tonight and then just get the adapter tomorrow (that is unless the dick sells mine to someone else etc).
(sorry for the ranting and venting, just had to get it out!)
Got mine from Supr Software (Game Stop), but here's the story:
After driving around this morning and checking out Best Buy, I called Supr Software just to see if they had any. They hadn't gotten them in and of course pre-orders were first. The woman took my name and number saying if there were any that people didn't pick up she'd let me know.
I get home and call Software Etc. and they said they did, so I get in my car...
AND IT DIDN'T START.
I'm jumpin' up and down and all of a sudden my neighbor comes along who has jumper cables. Didn't fix the problem so I go into the house dejected - my wife's at work and has an interview today, so no bugging her. I check the phone in the house and there's one call and a message - from Supr Software! Seems that they got extras, so they put one aside for me. The store is within walking distance so 20 minutes later I was the proud owner of a network adapter!!!!
I haven't opened it yet, but that's next! Hope everyone has luck today! BTW, I noticed that stores that don't have SOCOM won't have the adapter either - looks like they were "bundled" together.
Buddy of mine at my local EB held the last adapter and Socom for me. Once again, with the hell that is my life, I get to sit at work and stare at them all day as I wait to get home tonight...its official. Work sucks.
(Though I really think Socom is gonna have to wait until I get a little more playtime in with Mario Sunshine anyways.)
The adapter's up and running smoothly, just played a game of Madden on-line but the jerk I was playing dropped out. It's nice to know that you can continue the game playing against the computer when that happens. He's got a 100% disconnect rating now, and I'll probably block him out.
The set-up was very easy - I was able to use all automatic settings and they worked! Now to get SOCOM and shoot some people! Not to mention mail in my Twisted Black card and get that - it's the game I've been dying to play on-line!
Best Buy: Should be on store shelves tomorrow along with Socom.
Toysrus: The guy I spoke with at 10:30 a.m. said they should be getting them in sometime between 11 and 4. Came back around 2 o'clock and they never got them. Clerk said tomorrow.
Looking through the manual for the network adapter I noticed something. This is just a heads up for some folks. They have a listing of PS2 serial numbers that the Network Adapter may not be compatible with. Here is the list (which can be found on page 6 of the manual):
