Ok...i have an X1 proj. Is it better to buy a long component cable from the DVDP (like 5 meters or so) and then use a short breakout cable to VGA or vice versa? i have seen posts about cables, etc., but not on lengths. if so, i must have overlooked. also, is having a 5 m long digital audio coax cable ok (i have to use my laptop till i can get the DVDP)? thanks for the help.

Coaxial cable (which is what your component wires are made of) are rated at 100 feet. I'm not sure about the capacity of VGA cables so my recomendation would be to use long component cables. Hit the custom cable sites for good prices for this length.

Digital signals are much less sensitive than analog to length. People have used ordinary CATV coax for 30 foot runs from computer to receiver (in another room) with no problems.
