Projector shopping questions (1 Viewer)

I am a poor college student shopping for a low end projector to accompany my 6.1 audio setup. I recently spotted the Toshiba TLP-S30U for $1,117. It looks good on paper (HDTV ready,DLP,1400 lumens). Does anyone have any insight about this model or recommendations otherwise. I am also looking to build my own screen (b/c I don't like Da-Lite and Stewart is to expensive for me) and any advice on materials or placement will be welcome. Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!
