What part of the TV is the image actually burned into? My TV is flickering everyonce in a while so they are replacing the picture tubes? Is this the part that is affected, if so I am going XBOX haywire until they repair it thanks.

Also it is a sony and it does not have a contrast adjustment? Is the picture adjustment the same as contrast.

I think I found the answer which is yes. I was thrown off by the whold picture tube term since I have only heard them reffered to as guns. Still don't know the contrast answer!

    Hi Cory,

Since no one has answered your question yet:

Yes. Picture and contrast are different names for the same control.

Actually , on a Sony, the picture control is a combination of contrast , brightness and color levels. The idea being to keep the image in balance as you adjust for room conditions. It may seem like contrast but it electrically connected to several circuits.
