I finally recieved all the pieces of my new subwoofer project last night. I took alot of pics of the equipment. I am planning to start building the enclosure this weekend, it will be around 17 cubes internal and be tuned in the neighborhood of 15hz. I dont want to speculate but I am thinking I should have an in room F3 of close to 13 - 14hz and be able to produce 120db+ down to around 15 - 16hz. that is totaly specualtion though. Here are some pics!!!

Chris... am I seeing that right? You bought your wife a Bissel Steam Cleaner as a present!? And she let you drag that monster driver in the house... she's a good woman, Chris, hang on to her. [IMG]

I probably wouldv'e been beaten to death by the Bissel if I tried that on my wife. [IMG]

She is defintily a keeper!! it also helps that she really really likes movies, so she doesnt mind me working with HT stuff because we both can enjoy it togather.

Ahahahahaha... let that be a lesson to everyone else. Keep the pics of the wife away from these creeps! [IMG]

    just kidding.

But seriously, with a sub and a wife like that, I bet you're a happy man.

    Im no creep.

Chris openly gave us pictures of his wife and I thought it would be nice to say something positive. I am definitely a fan of this sub and am eagerly awaiting a review.

Score: +1 for new kick-ass sub
3x multiplier for hot wife who tolerates big bass!

    What is to complain about?

that pic of heather was actually taken this past halloween right before we left to go to a halloween party that some of our friends were having.

well last night I couldnt resist playing with the sub some. WHOA [IMG], I just simply cant wait to see what this thing can do in a proper enclosure. I played some low freq test tones through it, between 10 and 20hz and I can say that this driver easily has the most excursion of any driver I have ever owned. I literally could have sat there and watch it move all day long. I kept thinking to myself "How can it move that much and not break!!"

The only thing that I am still debating about is the enclosure. I really want this to be a long term sub so I want to make sure I nail it the first time. basically the sub will for probebly 90% movies and 10% music. One day I will be totally set on a very large enclosure tuned very low for maximum extension and then the next day I will be thinking that I want to go smaller and tune higher so I have more impact in the 20hz + range. Why is this so hard to decide!! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

would anyone want to voice their opinions on what direction you would go with an enclosure for this driver?

How much power RMS are you considering using?

Ive been playing with Unibox for a few weeks now. The Blueprint 1804 has been getting some serious modeling time from me. In the size box and tune, I was getting flat to about 15hz. Before room gain, though.

I still can not decide if I would like to build a "Tubezilla" clone but with 18s or a nice vented design. So many choices.

    it will be used with a Nady XA900 (900 x 1 @ 4ohms) and a BFD.

I was getting the same freq reponse as you were as well. now I am considering a 16 cube internal tuned to 16hz. i would only loose 1 hz of extension but would gain a little more ouput above 18hz.

My 1803 was in 13 ft^3, tuned to 17 Hz. Flat to 15-16 Hz. I could actually play 17 Hz through it with 1000 watts and make your voice quiver like it does when you talk through a fan!!!

When I sold it, I attached a 250 watt plate amp to the side of the sonotube. . .even with 250 watts, it blew away anything at best buy or circuit city!!!

Too bad your not near me. . .I have a 13 ft^3 sonotube pretty much ready to go!!! Been thinking about ordering another 1804 just to play with!!!

Sold them last year. Got $1100 for that pair of amps!!! Hated to let them go, but the QSC PLX3402 is much more than that pair of Carvers for sub duty!!!

Here is a nice little pic that shows off the excursion capabilities of this sub. This was with a 20hz test tone. I am not sure how much power the sub was receiving but the gain on the amp was turned to around 50% and the volume on the reciever was at about 75%. So im sure it was a descent amount of power. No bottoming out or unusual noise from the sub at all. It actually gave the feeling that it was bored with this challenge ahahhah
