Hi,
First post to the Forums (newly registered).
I have a Gamecube and an SVHS VCR and thought
someone here might be able to recommend a solution
to me. I've got a dorm room and a PC VGA monitor
and need to center my 5.1 solution around that.
I need a way to hook up my SVHS (for TV, time
shifting) and my Gamecube, but my main focus is
on top quality from my game systems (with an eye
out for a future Playstation 2, older SVIDEO-maxed
systems, etc.)
So, I need a device that can:
1. Carry the progressive 480p signal from Gamecube games that support it via Nintendo's et al component out to my Sony 15" PC monitor.
Carry 480i from all the games that don't support progressive out via same component out to VGA.
This precludes the soldered component->VGA cable
(no solution that supports 480i VGA, afaik), although
I might get that anyway for progressive games barring
better solutions.
2. Do a good job of upscaling svideo->VGA.
I've looked at the Key Digital and Audio Authority component->VGA products but neither seem to handle anything but progressive output.
I thought an HDTV decoder w/ VGA out might be nice, but it seems most leave the component/svideo ins to the HDTV-ready monitors. Is there an affordable HDTV decoder w/ component/svideo in?
My budgets between $200-$500 (higher-end hopefully offering a fully NTSC analog cable-compliant HDTV decoder to relieve my aching, upscanned JVC SVHS).
Anyone have any ideas? It's pretty irritating that Nintendo et al don't allow for simple solutions.
Thanks,
Asher
