Hi! I sat down with the family last night (popcorn made etc) and turned on Superman. My 3 and 4 yr olds were even wearing capes! Anyways, about the half way point, right when the news room is discussing how to exploit superman, and Clark Kent says " I dont think he can be bought (or whatever)" the image starts to pixilate and then freezes. I have a Tosh 6200. I then checked to make sure the disc was clean and without scratches, then I put it in my Pioneer 727 changer. And the same thing happens.
What do I do? This is the first time Ive encountered a defective disc!!

My Pioneer 434 did it also on a rental Superman disc in the same spot, so they most likely all will. The only other film I've had lock up is keeping the faith when ed norton is revealing his feelings to "dharma". It could be a copy protection error with our players, but who knows?

Played a rental copy of this disc on my Sony S7000, and had no problems. Played right through perfectly.

    Hey! 100 posts!
My friend's copy played perfectly on my Toshiba 6200, so I don't think it's the player. Could it be that there's a bad batch of discs out there? Is this by any chance the layer change spot? Two people having the same trouble in the same spot on two different players makes me think this might be the trouble.

I didn't have a problem with it freezing, but the first time I watched it there was a problem with the layer switch. After the layer switch, it jumped forward a minute or two (I think this scene is in the Fortress of Solitude.) I did a reverse search and played the footage that was skipped. When I stopped the disc and tried running through the layer switch again, it did so with no problem.

I had the same problem with my first disk... replaced it and now it works fine! Maybe there was a defective batch.

I loaned out my disc, but I believe the layer switch occurs 75 or 80 minutes in.

Relax, DVD-18s have about a 20-30% defect rate(Which is why everyone is dumping them). It's bound that some slip through, and the layer change is where problems usually crop up

Gregg, I'm glad that my pic inspired you! I'm sorry you had the problems you did; it seems that everyone else has answered the question.
All I can say is to keep on doing the same thing with other films. Our family has a blast when we all sit down and watch a film together (Emporer's New Groove was a fun one, too!). Cheers,
