Problems with GTA3 (1 Viewer)

Does anyone ever get any graphical glitches with their copy of GTA3? I was playing yesterday and my PS2 started making a sort of low grinding noise, some graphical glitches and then a "Read Disc Error" message came on my TV - where GTA3 promptly locked up. Before that, it was running fine. Anyone else experience this? Do you think it's a bad disc?

Grinding noises and a read error certainly say bad disc to me. Particularly as the other option is a bad read head, which I'm sure you don't want to hear...

I hope you aren't getting this error on any other games or DVDs. I've heard of PS2's developing a recurring "bad read error".
