My cable company finally started offering hd and I picked up the new box this morning, a motorola dct 6200.

They wanted around $40 to install it, and after a little bit of argument they let me pick it up to install myself.

I wanted to hook it up to my projector which through the component input is capable of displaying 480p, 720p and 1080i signals.

I connected the box, plugged it in, and it does not want to come on. There is no video signal.

I have tried connecting it both through component to my projector and with composite to a standard def tv.

The on/off button does not seem to do anything.

After plugging it in, I get a black screen on my standard def tv and about once a minute the black screen flashes off on the tv, and the led on the cable box flashes 88888. There is nothing in the manual about this and I am loathe to call the cable company because they will want to send their technician out to look at it and charge me the installation price.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Here's a link to Motorolas full manual. http://broadband.motorola.com/consum...eEntertainment

Have you tried to access the 6200 on screen setup menu? The TV has to be on and the box off to get there. You can also call the cable company and ask if they can "see" the box. It communicates two ways and can be re-booted on their end. Then again....it could be a bad box.

It turns out it was a bad box. I took the box back to the cable company, where they gave me a long I told you so about how this is why you need to pay for them to install it.

After it became clear I knew far more about how the box worked then they did, I got them to let me hook it up to a tv they had in their office. Finally their supervisor saw the box and said that the 8888 was an error code and replaced the box.

I got the new box and the hookup was simple and easy. Now my problem is lack of available channels. Basically I just get hdnet, hdmovienet, espnhd, discoverhd, and hbohd and thats it. I dont even get the major networks which the company said maybe months away(so much for an hd superbowl party).

In case anyone else in jersey with service electric of sparta was curious, the pic quality is stunning, but their really arent enough hd channels right now to make it worth it.
