I have no trouble listening to the surround with Blu-rays. The problem only occurs when trying to listen to content coming from my TV, i.e. apps loaded on my TV like Netflix and YouTube. I am connecting to my receiver with an optical cable because I could not get the HDMI ARC to work. Audio content from my TV is coming to my main tower speakers, but no matter what mode I select on the receiver (Dolby Surround, DTS, etc.) it never changes from two channel stereo. And what is weird is that this is an intermittent problem, because I was able to get all channels working before, then it quit, then I could do it again, and now it is not working again.

I have a brand new LG OLED CX tv and an Arcam 390 receiver, also brand new.

Check to see if the audio output is set to PCM in the audio options of the TV set. If it is, switch to Auto or.pass through and see if that helps fix the problem.
