Firstly, I've searched diligently but couldn't find any other thread related to what I'm about to say. If anybody knows of one, please let me know and I'll go there.

I bought a Panasonic SC-HT880W Home Theater a couple of years ago, but due to my absence overseas, haven't used it since almost new.

There was a problem with the surround speakers not putting out audio from new and that problem still exists. I know it has to be something simple, but can't find the reason.

The digital Rx is turned on indicated by a red light, and is receiving from the digital Tx plugged into the back of the DVD player indicated by a blue light.

The speakers are plugged into the Rx so it should all be working but isn't. It seems very unusual that it wasn't working right out of the box; it happens, I know, but very unusual. It's more likely something I'm doing, or not doing right.

Whilst it's most unlikely that both speakers are duds, I've checked the resistance and it's what I'd expect at 6 ohms (the nominated impedance is 4 ohms, but that's a dynamic reading).

Can anybody assist with what may be the cause?

Check the setup on the DVD player. It is probably set for 2 channel PCM output. You must enable Dolby Digital (usually denoted by the generic term 'Bitstream') and/or DTS. Most DVD players come with these off as default.

What a shame the manual doesn't mention that.
