I have my Onkyo 595 hooked up with 16 gauge wire and decided to upgrade to 12 guage wire and banana plugs. I bought a pair of Radio Shack 278-306A banana plugs to test it out, and to my dismay, I can't plug them into the binding posts. I also have JBL NSP1 speakers with the same type of binding posts, and they don't fit either! Am I doing something wrong? Did I buy the wrong type of banana plug?

Tighten up the binding posts and
plug the banana plug into the
rear circular hole of the binding
post, should fit like a glove.

I already know that you stick the banana plug into the hole in the rear instead of unscrewing the binding post and inserting as with bare wire. It still doesn't fit.

Richard,
Because of European regulations, some receivers have plugs in the holes where the banana plugs go in. If so, you should be able to pry them out pretty easily, and you’ll be in business.

I went to Radio Shack and bought another banana plug, the 278-308A. This time they fit quite nicely. Thanks for the replies.
