Well, to the person that gave me advice on the receivers I ended up going with the HK630 for my klipsch synergy 3's.

Picked one up off harmanaudio on ebay, finally came in today (had to wait at UPS an hour cause i was at work when it arrived), get home, spent 2 hours setting everything up and getting it pretty.

.. no sound from surround left channel ..

swapped speakers, none of them worked from the surround left, different modes, made sure it was set right, all the other speakers/channels work fine. Very upset here.. did i just get a bad one? aren't refurbished done by the factory? am i missing something here?

if anyone has any suggestions other than the obvious (call HK/service it/return it) please let me know.. thanks.

I think ive seen more posts about broken hk receivers than anything else on this board. This seems to be quite common, i will never buy an HK receiver.

That's just silly. People post messages about issues with all kinds of receivers here. Posting a reply like that doesn't help anyone.

Now to the original poster, if you bought a refurbished device, in my opinion you take a risk of these things happening. The good news is that it should carry the full manufacturers warranty. You should be able to take it to a local authorized Harman repair shop and have it taken care of. It is certainly unfortunate, but try to think of it this way, once it's fixed and you are all up and running, you'll forget about all of this mess.

You could also simply return the device if you are not comfortable with Harman after this experience. I have been very pleased with mine and have had no problems.

Very sorry to hear that you have had trouble and I hope everything works out well for you.

Another note, when I bought my RPTV it ran fine for a couple weeks and then started having a problem with the green tube. I was so angry that I had just spent that much money on a device and it was not in proper working order. I got it fixed and have not had a single problem with it since. I don't think about it much anymore.

I know this isn't really related to your issue, but it may put it into perspective for you.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck to you.

I agree. My refurbished HK AVR 630 has been great so far, and cost half what I would have paid at CC etc.

i think HK has alot more issues with refurbs than anyone else. How could they let a receiver out of the door with a bad amp in it? Especially a refurb which is supposidly thouroghly checked over. I have read threads with people who received bad hk refurbs, exchanged them (shipped back at there own expense) and received another lemon in return.

What is "just silly" about that?

You said,

Any manufacturer will have issues with some devices being faulty. No one has a completetly perfect record on every product they have ever sent out the door. If that were the case, there would be no such thing as purchasing refurbs. Furthermore, since the original poster purchased a refurb, it stands to reason that there would be a higher likelyhood that that the device could be faulty. Did you ever think that maybe something happened to the receiver after it left Harman/Kardon's hands?

What is "silly" about your comment is the fact that it provided absolutely no helpful information or advice to the original poster.

I don't want to hijack this thread with a flame session, but I just wish people would be more thoughtful/thorough when they post in someones thread.

Did you swap the speaker wire as well? Just wondering if something may be shorting at that connection, or maybe in that speaker, unless you tried that speaker on the other channels?...

I agree though, there seems to be alot of posts regarding refurbed HK's with issues right out of the box.

I bought my 7200 new from j&r's, luckily she's performed flawlessly for me.

Yeah i swapped them all around, all came to same conclusion.. it's strange.

Anyhow, thanks for the replies/advice guys, Harmanaudio had no problem sending me a preprinted UPS label and issuing me a replacement, just sucks having to wait another week for them to get it and a week to get the replacement. = So anxious to crank my new system, even picked up my buddies 27" wega for $180!

also want to note they said they inspect things before they go out and it was weird it had a problem, so maybe it got dropped by UPS, one of the corners was kinda bent up.. who knows..

That sounds logical to me. UPS can be very hard on packages. Shipping companies can be careless at times. Did you happen to see the pictures that Frank Manrique posted of his 2 SVS subs shipped by BAX? One of he crates had a huge hole in it.

Glad to hear everything got worked out for you. It's a pain to have to wait, but it'll all be worth it when you crank that baby up. :D
