I just got a yamaha reciever with pro logic 2 and have a question. will Pro logic 2 only work with dolby surround sources and not mono sources? I have several movies that are in mono sound only (to bad not all dvds are remixed in dd). The 70mm spectacle dsp does an ok job of expanding the soundstage with mono sources but the sound is is still mainly from the center.

Dolby Labs has said that they could offer a DPL II mono mode but I have never seen or heard of one on receivers. (Don't forget that DD can be everything from mono 1.0 thru 5.1EX. Nearly every DVD is DD. I've only seen very rare exceptions that are PCM only.)

Many companies offer a Mono Movie mode as part of their DSPs. I know my Denon and my Yamaha both have one. I have found them to work ok but not perfect. If you can control parameters on your DSPs, dialing down the amount of reverb can make the mono modes sound better...
