Printing really big word files (1 Viewer)

I have a big word file (about 2.8 Mb) that has a whole pile of images, tables, equations etc that I'm trying to print. The problem is-nothing seems to work. I've hat it spooling on my laserjet for about 40 minutes now, and nothing. Word is also eating 99% of the CPU at this point, and comes up as not responding.

Splitting the file into smaller chunks is not really an option, since there are just too many cross-references to maintain.

Is there a way to tell if there is something wrong with my file, or is this just par for the course?

If it is more than one page, you don't have to print the whole mess out at one time. Under print options you can select what pages to print. Like this:
1st run 1-20
2nd run 21-30 ... and so on Works much better.

Tried that, and same problem. Ended up fixing it by pasting everything into a new doc. File must have been corrupted at some point-no idea how or why.
