So, starting to see some reports that indicate maybe not such a clean lifestyle.

Is that shocking, usually when a person suddenly dies like that, there is more to the story than flu-like symptoms, especially a person of his means that could afford the best doctors.

What caused his death is irrelevant to me but the flu can sometimes be a very dangerous thing. And since Prince was a frail little guy, that danger could have been intensified. It's within the realm of possibility that the doctor had told him that he had the flu and as he got sicker, he just thought "Man, I feel terrible but it's the flu so I'll ride it out" and it ended up being more serious than anyone realized.

My gut says that it's exactly that, he tried to macho bull through an illness like flu or viral infection and lost, just like Jim Henson. Doing so was reported to be the 4th highest killer of Americans yesterday. Don't be a cowboy, see a doctor!!!

His religious beliefs may have also impacted what medical treatment he was willing or able to accept, which is of course his right. Apparently he needed knee replacement surgery for a long time but did not get it for that reason.

According to Jim Henson's Wikipedia entry, it appears that he put off seeking medical attention until it was too late. What apparently initially presented as Flu like symptoms (But never diagnosed as such!), was a bacterial infection that, without medical attention, eventually led to his death due to organ failure resulting from streptococcal toxic shock syndrome (caused by Streptococcus pyogenes).

I watched the NEW GIRL Prince episode for the first time this evening. To my surprise, it was much more than a typical guest cameo, and I rather enjoyed this! I won't spoil it for any others who may not have viewed this episode before and PVR'd it tonight, but I thought the last bit in the show's closing credits was kind of hilarious!

Although meant for treating cancer, Prince may have been taking fentanyl as a painkiller, not unlike how Michael Jackson was taking prescription drugs for pain relief. Very sad, regardless!

Sadly, I'm not so sure it would have made much difference long term, as Prince already had a few close calls, including the weekend before his passing!

It appears to me that he had become too dependant on pain medication, plain and simple.
