SHOWCASE LATEST IN GAMING

Activision, LG Electronics Combine Joint Awareness Campaign, Retail Promotion for

Stunning 3D Gaming Experience on CINEMA 3D TVs

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., and SANTA MONICA, Calif. Oct. 12, 2012 – Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) and LG Electronics USA revealed today that the highly-anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops II, in development by award-winning studio Treyarch, will support 3D- enabled gameplay – delivering a state-of-the-art 3D experience across single player, multiplayer and Zombies game modes – when it hits retail shelves worldwide on Nov. 13.

Starting today, LG and Activision are promoting the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops II in 3D with advertising across multiple consumer touch-points, including TV, cinema, digital and retail marketing. Beginning launch night, as part of a special nationwide 3D promotion with select retailers, gamers will receive a discount from LG when purchasing both a copy of the game and one of LG’s CINEMA 3D TVs. The retail promotion, which runs from Nov. 13 to Nov. 21, rolls out at over 25 national and regional retailers, totaling more than 2,000 electronics stores across the country. Additionally, beginning today, fans can see an exclusive 3D trailer of Call of Duty: Black Ops II at select Best Buy retail outlets nationwide.

“LG is excited to be a part of this historic launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops II to bring 3D gaming to life,” said James Fishler, senior vice president, marketing and go-to-market operations, LG Electronics USA, Inc. “From the intensity and cinematic visuals, to the attention to detail and heart-pounding gameplay, Call of Duty: Black Ops II in 3D further legitimizes the 3D gaming movement, and we’re proud to help the amazing fanbase of the Call of Duty® community enjoy it on LG CINEMA 3D TVs.”

LG Brings Call of Duty to a Whole New Level in 3D
Rooted in near-future fiction, Call of Duty: Black Ops II propels players into a visual landscape in an epic campaign set in the year 2025 and takes players on a cinematically intense journey filled with advanced weaponry, cutting-edge robotics and drone warfare in the most advanced Call of Duty ever. With the option to enable 3D gameplay, the title delivers stunning visuals on LG CINEMA 3D TVs that helps players dive into adrenaline-filled action sequences for an even greater immersive experience.

Fishler said LG CINEMA 3D TVs offer an extremely comfortable 3D gaming experience. LG CINEMA 3D utilizes polarized technology, with lightweight, inexpensive and shutter-free glasses similar to what consumers experience in the theater. For ultimate comfort, consumers can customize the 3D effect to their preference with 3D Depth Control. Most LG CINEMA 3D TVs come with six pairs of 3D eyewear.

“As game developers and storytellers, we want to take advantage of every opportunity to immerse players in the Call of Duty: Black Ops II experience and LG’s 3D technology helps to do just that,” said Mark Lamia, studio head of developer Treyarch. “We are thrilled to team up with LG, which shares this same passion to bring gamers to the edge of their seats with realistic visuals and heart-pounding gameplay.” And with LG Dual Play, for the first time ever, two players can each have their own full-screen experience while playing Multiplayer or Zombies split-screen.”

LG Dual Play Technology Enhances Side-by-Side Gaming*
For gamers who love playing split-screen with friends or foes, but hate splitting the screen, these LG TVs offer the solution with a feature called “Dual Play,” which allows gamers to see two completely different full-screen images on the same screen, at the same time.

Dual Play works by applying LG’s CINEMA 3D technology to a 2D split-screen game; the effect is two 2D images projected simultaneously. Dual Play glasses (required and sold separately) come with either two left- or two right-eye lenses, so instead of combining those images, the lenses filter only one image to each user. The result is the magnificence of the full screen for both players. Gamers have no fear, Dual Play works with most current gaming systems or even older consoles as long as it is a split-screen game.

Qualifying LG CINEMA 3D TVs are the following series: LM9600, LM8600, LM7600, LM7200, LM6700, LM6200 and G2.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II launches on Nov. 13, 2012, on the Xbox® 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, and Windows® PC. The title will also release on Nov. 18, 2012, for the new Wii U™ game system from Nintendo. Call of Duty: Black Ops II is rated “M” (Mature – Blood and Gore, Intense Violence Strong Language, Suggestive Themes, Use of Drugs – content suitable for persons ages 18 and older) by the ESRB.For more information on Call of Duty, visit www.callofduty.com/blackops2, or follow Call of Duty: Black Ops II on www.facebook.com/codblackops and on Twitter at #BlackOps2.

Treyarch did say the dramatically enhanced the 3D this time around.
Adding more shadow detail and definition.
I'll be playing it in 3D and I played their last one in 3D.
So I'll see if there's a difference.

Sony has the PS3/3DTV bundle that was promoted for the same basic idea. I doubt this is only going to work on LG TVs, but rather LG is using this as an opportunity to promote that they have it on their passive 3DTVs. I had been wondering for a while whether they would do this or not, and it seems like it's pretty easy to do.
I actually have a passive LG 3DTV and I love it. However, I know that the image being sent to each eye is 540p so the combined image from both eyes is sort of 1080i. That works when each eye is getting a separate 540p image, but with this thing they're promoting right now you would get the same 540p image being sent to each eye. Basically, you're looking at slightly-better-than-SD quality for each player. The one advantage for the active 3DTVs in this regard is that each player would see a full HD image, even though the other pitfalls of active 3D are in play.
If these TVs were 4K TVs, then each player would be getting a full HD image even though its not in 3D. If you could combine passive and active together with a 4K 3DTV, each player could have a full HD 3D image. That would also cost a ton of money.

If that's true Morgan I have no idea what this Press Release wants to convey. LG isn't the system maker the way Sony is in your example.
"Hey! This game is going to be AWESOME in 3D! You know who does 3D? US! Just like everyone else!!!!"

They're trying to advertise that you can do full-screen 2 player and allow each player to see only their image on the screen with the glasses. Sony did this like a year or so ago and sold a special bundle with a 3DTV, 2 glasses, a PS3, and a game. The big deal is that now you can get it with an LG 3DTV that uses passive (read: cheaper, no battery, lighter, no flicker) glasses.
I can only see this method sending a full HD (720p or better) signal to each eye if one of two things is happening. First, the 3D effect is achieve through polarization (just like current passive 3D sets) but they are able to modulate between full image polarization for + and - circular at a 240 Hz signal. Second, if the TV has a resolution of 2160 or higher. I doubt either is the case, letalone possible.
This is, most likely, a way for LG to advertise their TVs on the back of a popular game that is coming out next month. Nothing more.
