Given the size of the universeLooks like you answered your own question. To us, Earth is teeming with life and activity. Now, put yourself on, say Neptune (not even out of our solar system) and what does Earth resemble? Just another planet floating around in space, of which there are theoretically billions or even trillions. With the vast distance of space, even if aliens existed on Mars...that doesn't mean we would ever cross paths. It's always assumed that aliens would be generations ahead of us intellectually. Why? Could it be possible that aliens are as grounded to their planet as we are to ours? From what we know, the only evidence that would support the alien intelligence being far superior to ours is intergalactic travel or means of contact. So far, we haven't had any such evidence. Until that happens, I will believe there is abundant life in the universe, but none if it contains the ability to communicate with others.
