I was bored here at work and made a spreadsheet that looks at each team's offensive and defensive ranking and weighs them against their opponent's offensive and defensive ranking.

It calculates who is better suited to win. I'd thought I'd post the results here just for fun to see how accurate it is.

This weeks winners, according to the "Predict-O-Matic" are going to be:

    Carolina Panthers
    Tennessee Titans
    Philadelphia Eagles
    Indianapolis Colts
    New England Patriots
    Miami Dolphins
    New Orleans Saints*
    New York Giants
    Buffalo Bills
    San Diego Chargers
    Green Bay Packers
    Washington Redskins*
    Atlanta Falcons*
    Tampa Bay Buccaneers*

(*the Predict-o-matic says this will be a close game)

I'm working on adding to the formula to take into consideration if a team has been on a losing streak, playing at home, and how tough their past opponents have been (which can skew their ranking).

Dave, does your "Predict-o-matic" pick the winner on the field or does it include the point spread? Just curious.

It just picks the winner on the field. I am in a "survivor" pool here at work where you have to pick a team that will win each week, but you can't pick the same team twice. If your team loses, you're out.
So, I was just breezing over stats this week and decided to plug 'em into a spreadsheet and one thing lead to another.
It'll be interesting to see how accurate it is this weekend.
Does anyone know where you can download raw NFL stats?

Make sure this thread is bumped back up on Tuesday, I wanna see how it did. I'm in a pool right now, and I could use some help.

Oh, I wouldn't blame you. (Not publicly at least.) But I've had a horrible time of it so far this year. Normally I'm pretty good at picking winners, but of course the first time I put some money down on it, I'm 5th from last out of 70 people.

Well, well, well! The Predict-O-Matic™ is at a pretty solid 10 out of 13 correct! And the games it did miss were pretty close.

It's leaning slightly towards Tampa tonight... sorry, St Louis fans.

My daughter was 5 out 6 yesterday with the spread. She was a perfect 5 out 5 with the spread when choosing a team but she is 0 for 1 when picking the over/under.
    She gave me:
    SD -1.5 [IMG]
    Phil -9 [IMG]
    49'ers -9 [IMG]
    Miami -6 [IMG]
    Atl -6 [IMG]
    Atl over 43 [IMG]
BTW, she likes St Louis and under tonight.

Yeowch! The Predict-O-Matic™ had some processing problems last week, apparently. 5 for 9! I've got an electrician coming over to install clean power to it tonight. I'll get this weeks picks up tomorrow.
