It's blurred on these formats: laserdisc and original DVD. Sorry, don't know about VHS since I've never owned or seen it on VHS. So Fox blurred it out from the start. There was a small discussion somewhere about this when the original DVD came out. -
I'm sure most people know but it's a slighly different situation for Mulholland Drive. Lynch blurred frontal nudity for the 'sake' of the actress so she wasn't on every loser porn site on the internet. And Lynch made the call, not the studio.
Right or wrong, at least the director made the decision. I doubt that was the case for Predator 2.
:b I'm just saying, I remember reading somewhere that there were specific rules regarding male genitalia and in what states it could be in and not be classified as pornography.
Angels and Insects got by with an "R" rating, which had a brief scene where a nude male actor was... well... in a very obvious state of... uhm... arousal.
I seem to remember that some director in a commentary said that members of the MPAA told him that female frontal nudity is okay because it is benign, but that male frontal nudity is unacceptable because it is "aggressive".....they don't get out much do they?
Well, I think one difference is that lots of people view female nudity as beautful and artistic - women are generally happy to see other naked women. But men are just all lumpy and unpleasant to see - nothing artistic about US naked!
Also, when you are dealing with Full Frontal female nudity, you are usually only seeing some pubic hair. Your not actually seeing the organ itself. With men, it's hide to hide the actual organ (unless your name is Jame Gumb, I suppose.)
