I've always been running a Marantz SR6200 to drive all of my speakers.
Recently I picked up a Moon I-5 integrated amp to drive my stereo configuration and I must say its absolutely stunning. So logically I decided to use my SR6200 as a pre/pro. When connecting the L & R preamp outputs to the I-5 I get no sound. The rest of the channels play out of the Marantz and the volume adjustment even works through the A4 "HT Bypass" input on the I-5. Any clue why I am getting no sound out of it?

Yes, I checked all my cables and input selections on the Moon.

Your speaker wires should be hooked up to the Moon, not the Marantz.

Does your Marantz have A & B front speakers, sometimes a receiver will unselect itself and you have to choose which one you want to use.

Not that I am aware of Vic , I've been looking through menus like a madman. There has to be some setting that I am missing.

There are no settings for the preamp outs, and there is no A/B switch.

Have you tried running it in stereo with a stereo analog source to verify that the outputs are working?

Disconnect all speakers and run just the mains?

Are you SURE you have the correct 2 preamp outs?

I am positive I have the correct preamp outputs. Now I can get sound out of the tuner if I switch to that. No sound comes out if I use ANY digital inputs however.

    I have an SR-8000, was using it as a pre-amp for a Bryston 4B-ST.

I even drove the main speakers off the SR-8000 and routed the left/right pre-out to an external crossover to drive a subwoofer, with no problem.

So obviously you are attempting something that is common practice.

I do know the SR-8000 has a setting for 2 vs. 6 channel output, although this should have no impact with you. Check it out.

Try an analog output from your CD. Does it work?

Connect your front speakers to the rear surround channels and try a Dolby Digital source? Do you get sound?

Check the speaker settings? Not familar with the x200 series - are there unique settings for each particular configuration?

Check the mute setting ... I'm getting desperate, as I'm sure you are when womething simple does not work ... #%@#$%#%#&(*#@. I went thru this all weekend trying to get a Classe SSP-50 to process a DTS source...
