This is a totally honest question. I have a Denon 5800 that I can upgrade for a total cost of $850. I can probably sell the unit for $1800.

If there a pre/pro/amp that can power seven channels that I can buy for a sum total of around $3000 - including all 7 interconnects between the units, shipping, and/or taxes - that would do as good a job as an upgraded Denon 5800?

    Thanks,
    Mike

You may wish to look at the new Rotel receiver. It has 5 amps but they are assignable so that you can get a bigger amp for the front channels and use the built in ones for rears in 7.1. With an outboard Rotel 2x130W channel amp it will be about $2k list. Not haveing to drive the front speakers will make the internal amps free for less demanding channels and perform much better. If you want separates, the Rotel pre/pro is about $1,500, leaving a decent amt. for amps.
