Power To The People: British Music Videos 1966–2016
I just got this new 6 DVD set in the mail from Amazon UK, and I've only played parts of a couple of discs 4 and 5 and I'm totally blown away. "Weekender" by Flowered Up is the Citizen Kane of rock videos and the Apex Twin videos are like miniature feature films. The choreography, editing, art direction, lighting... so many ideas here!
This has to rank as one of the most important music collections of all time. I thought this would be a roundup of the "usual suspects" from MTV back when it still played music, and that would have been fine, but it is MUCH more than that. I only recognize a few of the videos I watched, and I have no idea how the ones I didn't recognize escaped me. It's some of the most exciting and innovative film making I've ever seen.
The image and sound quality on these videos are stellar. Every one is in its proper aspect ratio. I honestly had a hard time believing I was watching an SD DVD at times. The DVDs are anamorphic and are in PAL, so if you are ordering from the US, you need a region free player. Six discs, about 15 hours of material. It's going to take me a long time to work my way though all this, and I'm really excited about it.
