The teaser trailer was just released:
Given the source material and the director involved (Dean Israelite), I wasn't expecting much but came away somewhat pleasantly surprised.
But the screenwriter is Academy Award nominee John Gatins, and it looks like he made some smart choices. Making the Angel Grove School a school for juvenile delinquents was an interesting twist, an inversion of the squeaky clean image of the original Power Rangers. And despite the contemporary setting, this seems to owe more than a little debt to the teen scifi movies on the eighties like WarGames, The Goonies and The Last Starfighter where the young protagonists are privy to huge secrets that the rest of the world is largely oblivious to. And it was the right choice to make the power rangers technology creepy and alien, with a vaguely Close Encounters-esque vibe.
